The Morning After Round-Up: Predators 5, Coyotes 4 (SO)

The Nashville Predators got off to a good start on the four game road trip out west with a 5-4 shootout win over the always pesky Phoenix Coyotes.

Whenever the two teams meet you know that it will be a close contest with two of the NHL's best hockey minds behind the bench with Barry Trotz and Dave Tippet playing their chess match to get the most out of their players.

In the end, it was Trotz's deft move to put Andrei Kostitsyn on the ice for the Preds' first shooter. He has a good shot and is not well known in the Western Conference. It was also good to see Pekka Rinne return to good form in the shootout, shutting down all the Coyote marksmen.

The victory temporarily eliminated the "game in hand" that the Predators had with Detroit and pulled Nashville within two points of the Wings in the battle for home ice in the dreaded 4-5 match that the two teams appear destined for.

The Preds and Wings share common road opponents through Sunday in the Sharks and the two teams from the LA area so it will be interesting to see who makes up ground on the other before they each return home.
