POTG Wednesday Morning Headlines, News, and Links

It has been over six weeks since Nashville Predators fans have seen players on ice in Smashville. This morning at Centennial SportsPlex at 10 a.m. fans who aren't tied to a desk can take in the first public skate for the Preds' prospects attending this years' Development Camp.

From  the pictures that I saw from yesterday, Magnus Hellberg appeared to be the darling of the media in the scrums and why not. Everyone has been spoiled by the growing line of tall Northern European goalies.

Here is an updated cam roster and schedule. Make the jump for today's news and links...

In Pred Nation...

Cellblock 303 has moved into the travel agency business with an opening weekend package that covers 1200 miles and the Predators playing on opening nights in Columbus and St. Louis.

Josh Cooper has a couple of notes from the first day of camp including why Magnus Hellberg was not on the ice.

David Boclair has an update on Austin Watson who set career highs in goals and points in an otherwise frustrating year.

Mark Torrence covered Development Camp on Tuesday for OnTheForecheck. Meanwhile, Dirk Hoag has been pulling double duty with afternoon links as well as the breakfast variety.

Seth lake has Development camp primers with complete breakdowns of the forwards and goalies and defensemen. Once again Seth does an amazing job with the lowdown on every player in camp.

Paul McCann reflects on the parting of Steve Sullivan.

Around the NHL...

Yesterday's Hall of Fame announcement appeared to be generally well received. Tom Gulitti, who I had the privilege of sitting beside at the draft, laments that Pat Burns was not brought in under the "Builder" category. It was the first time since 1981 that no builder was selected..

Dennis Bernstein talked to Mike Richards about moving to the West coast. Here is the result.

Ryan Kennedy has a list of savvy picks from the draft and guess who is at the top.

The Goalie Guild has a useful free agent tracker for goalies.

Word on the street was that Detroit was interested in Christian Ehrhoff then the Islanders traded for his rights. Now what? Another highly coveted D-Man in Joni Pitkanen has re-signed in Carolina.

The Washington Capitals tied up Brooks Laich for top dollar for the next seven years. I think Nashville got a better deal with David Legwand.

David Shoalts discusses how the rising salary cap is stressing small market teams.

Kurtenblog has the scenario where the league goes RFA crazy with offer sheets.

Elliotte Friedman discusses how things could fall apart in Tampa if an offer sheet was made to Steven Stamkos and also has his 30 thoughts.

Wayne Simmonds looks to be a good fit in the Philadelphia style of play.

Could Andrei Markov's three year $17,25 million contract set the bar in the Shea Weber signing? Based on that number, Weber may want more that $6.5 million a year.

Derek Zona looks at some of the curiosities of this year's NHL Awards voting.

Sad news for Pens fans and the Pittsburgh City Council voted to tear down the Civic Arena AKA "The Igloo".

Odds and Ends...

We had heard rumors that In-N-Out Burger was heading to Dallas and Big Ben sent us this article yesterday that indicates that it is true.

Here is a photo show of the top ten aggressive breeds of dogs. This questionable survey cones from DogBiteClaims. I didn't realize our Cockers were so high up on the mean dog list and who would fear a chihuahua?

There is a media guide to using Twitter. Who knew?
